The Football World Cup 2010 - Great Expectations

The Football World Cup 2010 is about to blast-off today, the 11th of June 2010, in South Africa to the cheering screams of football crazy fans. The fans will be blowing on their vuvuzellas, joining in the mexican waves, waving their flags and buntings, all dressed in the football colours of the country they support. They are hoping their team will win this world cup and proudly take home to their country the pure gold Jules Rimet Trophy to the accolades of the world community.

Today, there are two games expected to be played. The first football match will be held at Soccer City, Johannesburg at 19.00 hrs (IST) between host nation South Africa and Mexico. The second match, which should turn out to be a cruncher, will be played at Green Point, Capetown at 00.00 hrs (IST) between France and Uruguay.

At their current form, Mexico should do well but we cannot discount the South Africans who have a brilliant coach in C.A.Parreira, who is known to inspire his players to achieve great things. The Uruguayans are going to give France a run for their money. This should be a cracker of a game, which anybody can win on a given day, given half a chance.

Let's hope the best teams win in the best spirit and fair play of the beautiful game, played safely and in mutual respect of each and every footballer.
